The beginnings of the Buckeye moniker may have begun around the time North Bend was settled, back in 1788. The Indians were greatly impressed by an early pioneer from Marietta, Col. Ebenezer Sproat. In the early 1800s, North Bend, Ohio, residents established the “Pasture Graveyard.” President William Henry Harrison’s family originally owned the land. Among the earliest burials was John Cleves Symmes, a member of the United States House of Representatives, a judge of the Northwest Territory, and father-in-law to President Harrison.
